Description

Kaunas University of the Third Age (KAUNO TAU) is a non-formal adult education institution dedicated to lifelong learning for older adults. We welcome Erasmus+ job-shadowing guests for 3 or more days to observe and participate in our educational activities. Our programme includes:

  • Design workshops – creative practice with hands-on methods, visual communication and applied arts.
  • Lectures on Lithuanian history – key periods, cultural heritage and local identity.
  • Technology presentations – demonstrations of innovative tools, practical digital solutions and “technology curiosities” for everyday use.
Visitors can meet our teaching staff, observe classes, exchange experience on adult education methodologies, and develop ideas for future cooperation in Erasmus+ projects.

European Dimension

Our activities are aligned with the European priorities in adult educationand contribute to:

1. Inclusion and lifelong learning for 50+ learners

We promote equal access to education for older adults, including people with limited prior learning opportunities. Our work supports social participation, learning motivation and empowerment in line with European strategies on active ageing and inclusion.

2. Digital transformation and everyday digital skills

Through “Technology curiosities” sessions, we develop practical digital literacy, awareness of emerging technologies, and responsible online behaviour. We support the EU priority of digital skills for all adults, especially those with low digital confidence.

3. Strengthening European identity and cultural heritage

Lectures on Lithuanian and European history foster shared values, intercultural understanding and cultural awareness. We link local heritage to wider European historical narratives and encourage dialogue between Erasmus+ partners.

4. Creative skills and innovation in adult learning

Design workshops encourage creativity, visual expression and collaborative learning methods that strengthen key competences for lifelong learning. We exchange methodologies with European partners to improve innovative teaching practices.

5. Capacity building and cooperation between adult education providers

Through Erasmus+ job shadowing we aim to share methods, develop new community-based practices, and build long-term partnerships with organisations working with older adults across Europe.

Invitation to Partners

We invite Erasmus+ partners interested in:

• adult education for older learners

• creative and cultural learning methods

• digital and technology education for 50+ audiences

• intergenerational and community-based learning

• inclusion and participation of older adults in EU projects

We are open to reciprocal visits, knowledge exchange and joint project development.

Expected Outcome

Participants will join ongoing classes and creative workshops, which will take place at different faculties and in different premises, get acquainted with the history and structure of the host organization, visit other offices of members of the national association uniting universities of the Third Age, attend various drama, music, theater, and English language club "FeelFree" activities, get acquainted with the history of Lithuania and the city of Kaunas, participate in national food tastings and other cultural and educational excursions.

About Kaunas

Kaunas is Lithuania’s second-largest city and a major centre of its economic, academic, and cultural life. Historically, it served as the capital of the Kaunas Governorate under the Russian Empire (1843–1915) and later as Lithuania’s temporary capital between 1920 and 1939, when Vilnius was under Polish control.

During the interwar period, Kaunas became known for its vibrant cultural scene and remarkable modernist architecture, which earned the city the European Heritage Label and recognition as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2023. It is also the first city in Central and Eastern Europe designated as a UNESCO City of Design.

Situated at the confluence of the Nemunas and Neris rivers, Kaunas is the capital of Kaunas County and home to several universities and the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kaunas. In 2022, it was named a European Capital of Culture. The wider metropolitan area has around 400,000 inhabitants.
